Seton Hall Athletics would like to congratulate Pat Lyons on a tremendous 14-year career serving the University! After coming to Seton Hall in 2011 as Director of Athletics & Recreational Services and moving into the Office of the President as the Executive Vice President & Chief of Staff in 2019, Lyons has decided to depart the University to move closer to his family.
While leading the athletics department from 2011-19, Lyons oversaw a rich period of success in athletic competition, academics, servant leadership and infrastructure growth. In competition, Seton Hall produced seven BIG EAST Championships, 48 individual BIG EAST titles and 11 NCAA Tournament appearances.
Stressing the complete student-athlete, Athletics began to see record academic success during Lyons' tenure as the department's cumulative grade point average achieved a record high at the end of each academic year, a feat that has continued under current Director of Athletics Bryan Felt. The department's GPA has steadily grown from 3.174 at the end of 2011 to 3.537 at the end of 2025.
After moving to the Office of the President in 2019, Lyons had oversight of Athletics, along with Facilities Engineering and Business Affairs, Human Resources, Operations and Student Services and Information Technology and continued to serve Seton Hall student-athletes and their best interests. His leadership helped Seton Hall finish the Pride & Excellence Campaign that he began in 2013, which resulted in a sweeping transformation of Athletics facilities to enhance the student-athlete experience, punctuated by the newly opened Basketball Performance Center.
Congratulations to Pat on his tremendous Seton Hall career and best wishes for the future. Once a Pirate, always a Pirate!
