May Improves to 11-2 in Spring Singles, Pirates Lose at Saint Francis

Ebensburg, Pa. - Freshman Isabelle May improved to 11-2 in spring singles with a victory in the No. 3 position, but the Seton Hall women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Saint Francis Friday at Ebensburg Tennis Center.
May defeated Reagen Mangan in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, for her 11th spring singles win, making her 15-7 overall.Â
"We lost a tough one today," said head coach James Enzler. "Doubles was played well and with good intensity. In singles, we just had too many moments in which we played on our back foot and tried hitting big shots that we just didn't need to hit. Stage [Anastasia Sereda] and Bella [Moen] did a good of not falling back often but we all could use more work. We all started singles a little hard headed and not wanting to play outside of our comfort zone. I'll give credit where it's due though; the team responded well to coaching and made the adjustments that were needed. Against good teams like Saint Francis though, we just can't get ourselves in a one-set deficit before we realize the way we are playing isn't working. It has to be adjusted sooner. Fortunately, and to be honest, unfortunately, tomorrow's match outdoors will fit much better with the style of play we are comfortable with so I expect the team will play confidently."
Seton Hall nearly earned the doubles point, as Rachel Benoualid and Hili Kronzon were victorious in the No. 3 position, but at No. 2, Saint Francis squeaked out a 7-5 win to take the doubles.
In singles, after May won her match, Arabella Moen was also victorious, topping Morgan Tuffs in the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-2. She's now 4-1 in spring singles.
The Pirates conclude their weekend road trip with a Saturday afternoon match at Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md., at 2 p.m.
