Little Silver, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team won the doubles point over Monmouth to jump start a 4-1 win over the Hawks Saturday afternoon at Little Silver Tennis Club. The win was Seton Hall's fifth true road win of the season, most in a season by the Pirates in over a decade.
The Pirates got doubles wins from the tandem of Tamsin Hart/Paige Wise and Hili Kronzon/Isabelle May and singles wins from Hart, Isabelle Einess and Rachel Benoualid.
"The team continued to do what they've done so well this season, which is fighting hard from start to finish," said Seton Hall head coach James Enzler. "Playing down in Monmouth, for whatever reason, is a very tough atmosphere and we often struggle to find our rhythm there. The girls were able to still grab another road win though, which is never an easy task. One of the best moments tonight was Rachel coming away with her first singles win. She works so incredibly hard every practice and is such a selfless individual. I'm really happy and proud of her tonight; she absolutely deserves it."
After struggling to win doubles over the last few weeks, the Pirates took care of business against the Hawks as Kronzon and May set the tone with a dominating 6-0 win over Ximena Cano and Lauren Landstrom in the No. 2 position. Monmouth grabbed a win at No. 3, but the Pirates sealed the doubles point at No. 1 when Hart and Wise shook off Lana Brezanin and Hana McKinney with a 7-5 win.
Monmouth tied the team score at 1-1 with a victory at No. 6 singles, but the Pirates then took over as Hart and Einess were dominant at No. 3 and 4, respectively. Hart took down Landstrom, 6-1, 6-0, and Einess defeated Cano, 6-1, 6-1.
Benoualid picked up her first singles win, overcoming a first set loss to Faith Sadgrove, to recover and win 4-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Seton Hall will now train for its spring training trip, as the Pirates are headed to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., where they will face Villanova, Sioux Falls, St. Bonaventure and Saint Leo.
