South Orange, N.J. -Â The achievements of Seton Hall student-athletes from the 2022-23 academic year were celebrated on April 25 inside historic Walsh Gymnasium as Seton Hall Athletics hosted the seventh annual SHUcademy Awards.
Seton Hall assistant strength & conditioning coordinator Angelo Gingerelli hosted the event which saw representation from every program and celebrates the best of the best in Pirates athletics for the year.
Junior Female Athlete of the Year was presented to both softball's Kelsey Carr and women's swimming and diving's Natalie Heim. Carr has been the catalyst for Seton Hall softball's strong season as she leads the Pirates with 11 home runs, 42 RBI and a 1.94 ERA in the circle. Heim won both the 100 Free and 200 Free at BIG EAST and set school records in both events. She was also the first women's swimmer in program history to win each event at BIG EAST.
Baseball's Max Viera was named Junior Male Athlete of the Year in his first season with the Pirates. Viera currently leads The Hall with a .335 batting average, 57 hits, 15 doubles and 37 RBI while helping put The Hall in contention for a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament.
Softball's Olivia Gilbert and women's swimming and diving's Alexandra Waggoner were named the Sophomore Female Athletes of the Year. Waggoner, who earned the SHUCademy Award for Freshman Athlete of the Year last year, took down the 400 IM school record with a time of 4:22.10, and broke both the 1000 Free and 1650 Free records during her gold medal swim in the mile at the BIG EAST Championships. Gilbert has had a breakout sophomore campaign for Seton Hall softball as she has started and played in all 51 games at first base this season and is hitting .301 with six home runs and 33 RBI.
Swimming and diving's Quinn Murtha took home Sophomore Male Athlete of the Year honors. Murtha shined at this year's BIG EAST Championships, becoming the first Pirates men's diver to win a BIG EAST title since current diving coach Ben Mitchell did so back in 2015. He won the 1-meter with a total score of 569.75 and the 3-meter with a score of 613.80.
Freshman Female Athlete of the Year went to volleyball's Asli Subasili. A force in service, Subasili finished fourth in the BIG EAST and 87th nationally with 42 service aces. At the net, she led the Pirates with 108 total blocks and averaged just over a block per set.

Klimaszewski took home BIG EAST gold in the 100 Fly, 200 Fly, 400 free relay and 400 medley relay.
