
Pirates Rally to Outlast Providence in Five Sets

The victory improves The Hall to 2-0 in BIG EAST play for the first time since 2014.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 set deficit, and for the second straight night, three Pirates recorded double-doubles as The Hall outlasted Providence, 3-2 (17-25, 25-14, 19-25, 25-17, 15-7), on Saturday.
After dropping the third set, the Pirates never trailed in sets four or five in route to the thrilling five-set victory. The Hall is now 2-0 in BIG EAST play for the first time since 2014.
Junior Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) finished with 13 kills, a career-high 18 digs and four blocks. Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) had a match-high 21 assists to go with 11 digs and three aces, while Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) notched 13 kills, 13 digs and three assists.
SET 1:
Seton Hall's worst set of the night was its first. The Pirates had only a .065 attack percentage and trailed the entire time. Providence scored the first four points and The Hall played catch-up for the rest of the set. A block by Bucciarelli and Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey) cut the Pirates' deficit to 18-13, but the Friars responded with four straight points to boost their lead back up to nine. From there, they cruised to a 25-17 victory.
SET 2:
The script was completely flipped in the second set. This time, the Pirates dominated, holding the Friars to a -.069 attack percentage. Seton Hall roared out of the gate scoring the first six points. Moments later, a kill by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) gave The Hall a commanding 11-3 advantage. Leading 22-14, the Pirates closed the set with three straight points. A block by Walsh and Laila Wallace (Munster, Ind.) put The Hall in set point, and Faith LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) ended the set with an ace.
SET 3:
Providence had its best offensive set in the third. It was the closest set of the match, featuring eight lead changes and 10 ties, and in the end, Providence took a 2-1 match lead. A block by Lucas and Subasili gave The Hall a 15-13 advantage, but the Friars responded with a 6-1 run to take a 19-16 lead. The Hall never recovered and Providence went on to a 25-19 victory.
SET 4:
The final score of the third set was the last lead Providence had in the match. Seton Hall scored eight of the first 10 points of the fourth set and cruised to an easy fourth-set victory. Leading 8-3, the Pirates went on a 6-1 run to extend its advantage to 14-4. Up 21-11, the Friars scored four straight points, but The Hall bounced back with four of the final six points. Lucas had five of her 10 kills in the fourth set alone.
SET 5:
Like set four, the Pirates dominated set five. The Hall had nine kills, no attack errors and a .692 attack percentage in the decisive set. Once again, the Pirates raced out to an early lead, and a block by Bucciarelli gave them a 6-2 lead. Moments later, a kill by Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) extended The Hall's advantage to 9-3. An ace by Anna Holland (Waukesha, Wis.) put the Pirates in match point, 14-6, and two points later, a kill by Walsh ended the set in their favor.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, September 30 when it continues BIG EAST Conference play in Washington, D.C. against Georgetown. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The contest will be streamed by the BIG EAST Digital Network and shown on FloSports.
