
Records Fall, Pirates Wrap Up 2021 BIG EAST Championships

Geneva, Ohio – The Seton Hall women's swimming team finished up Day Four with a record-breaking performance in the 400 Free Relay on Saturday to close out the 2021 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships in fourth place overall.
The relay team consisting of Leiya Istambouli (Danbury, Conn.), Julie Stankiewicz (Metuchen, N.J.), Natalie Heim and Cornelia Jerresand (Taeby, Sweden) managed to take second place and set a new school record with a time of 3:25.73 in the 400 Free Relay.
In her first BIG EAST Championships, Amanda Zajdzinski scored a fifth-place finish for The Hall in the 1650 Free with a time of 17:13.00. Madeleine Bachand (Raleigh, N.C.) also qualified for the Pirates in the event.
Seniors Marianne Molloy (Toms River, N.J.) and Amelia Wootton (Bethel, Conn.) qualified for finals in the 200 Back with Wootton swimming a lifetime-best time of 2:05.85. Madeline Field (Wheaton, Ill.) also qualified for The Hall in the event finals.
In the 100 Free, Seton Hall saw four swimmers qualify for finals: Stankiewicz, Jerresand, Heim and Istambouli. The freshmen, Heim (51.20) and Istambouli (51.56) would take third and sixth, respectively, with each swimmer setting a new personal best.
The 200 Breaststoke finals saw three Pirates compete with Meredith Mutter (Pottstown, Penn.), Nicole Bastian and Lexi Kolodgie (Baltimore, Md.) all grabbing a spot in Saturday night's finals. The Pirates would add three more finalists in the 200 Fly Finals with Heidi Dickson (Greenwich, N.J.), Sarah Frie (Waterford, Va.) and Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.) all representing The Hall. Cripps would go on to take fourth in the event with a time of 2:02.58.
Just as they did in the 1M Dive, both Pirate divers, Ashley Diekemper (Severna Park, Md.) and Laura Stavila (Oakland, Calif.), would qualify for the 3M Dive finals on Day Four.
