
Pirates Down Villanova in 2020-21 Season Opener

Villanova, Pa. – The Seton Hall men's swimming team had an impressive start to the long awaited 2021 season picking up a victory over BIG EAST foe Villanova on Friday. Overall, the Pirates touched the wall first in 11 of 14 events.
In his first collegiate meet, freshman Gideon Langenbusch (Oberhausen, Germany) picked up first in both the 200 and 500 Free events with times of 1:44.23 and 4:46.79. Langenbusch would also take first as part of the 400 Free Relay team that included Liam Cosgrove (Sea Girt, N.J.), Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) and Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.).
Fellow freshman Justen Lopez saw success in his first career outing picking up first in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 57.99.
The 200 Medley Relay team got things started for the Pirates in the first event this season posting a first-place finish and time of 1:33.87 from Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.), Gennarino Conzemius (Bethel Park, Pa.), Cosgrove and Minar. Pantano would go on to take first in both the 100 and 200 Back while Minar captured first in the 50 Free.
Keeping up the Pirates' success in the Freestyle events was LaClair who took first in the 100 Free with a time of 48.14 in the Pirates' first competitive action since BIG EAST Championships last February. Senior Liam Cosgrove was the first to touch the wall in the 100 Fly, doing so in a time of 50.79.
The Pirates will be back in the pool on March 20 when they take on UConn at home in Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.
