
Gasser, Mason Lead Hall to Four-Set Win at PC

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sophomore Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had a career-high 13 kills and senior Dominique Mason (Chicago, Ill.) had her third straight double-double as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team defeated Providence, 3-1 (25-17, 16-25, 28-26, 25-13), on Friday.
The victory gives the Pirates a season sweep over Providence and improves their BIG EAST Conference record to 7-3.
SET 1:
Seton Hall got off to a strong start with a convincing victory in the first set. Clinging to a 13-12 lead, the Pirates went on a 10-1 run to take a commanding 23-13 advantage. With the Pirates in set point at 24-17, blocks by Gasser and Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) ended the set in The Hall's favor, 25-17. Seton Hall had a team-best .300 attack percentage in the opening frame.
SET 2:
Providence dominated the first set from the start. After a kill by Gasser began the set, the Friars reeled off eight straight points. From there, the Pirates never cut the Providence lead to fewer than six points. The Friars won set two to tie the match, 25-16, and hit a match-high .517 in the second set.
SET 3:
The turning point of the match came in an epic set three that featured four lead changes and 12 ties. Coming out of a timeout, and trailing 9-5, Seton Hall went on a 9-1 run, and a kill by Gasser put the Pirates in front, 14-10. Providence rallied and took a 22-20 lead, before the Pirates scored back-to-back points to tie the score at 22 and prompt a Friars timeout. Twice the Pirates staved off set points when Providence took a 24-23, and 25-24 leads. With the score tied at 26, blocks by Gasser and Sharay Barnes (Swarthmore, Pa.) put The Hall in set point, and a kill by Mason won the set for the Pirates, 28-26.
SET 4:
The Pirates never trailed in set four and scored four of the first five points. The Hall methodically increased its lead and a kill by Gasser gave the Pirates their largest lead of the night, 21-9. Leading 23-13, back-to-back kills by Mason and Madison Salkowski (Cold Spring, Ky.) gave Seton Hall a convincing 25-13 set four victory.

The Pirates will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 22 when they travel to Omaha, Neb. to face defending champion Creighton. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
