PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's swimming & diving wrapped up a two-day trip to Rutgers on Saturday, competing in nine events against the Scarlet Knights along with conference rivals Georgetown and Villanova.
For the second consecutive day, junior Gabby Signorelli (Massapequa, N.Y.) headlined the Pirates' outing with her efforts from the diving board. In one meter competition, Signorelli scored a 248.30 that was the second-best six-dive mark in the event and was over 30 points higher than the next closest BIG EAST representative.
Freshman Kylene Ronayne (Springfield, Pa.) paced The Hall in two events in the pool, clocking in at 4:38.57 (sixth) in the 400-IM to start day two before leading the way for the blue & white in the 500-free with a 5:15.14 mark.
Sophomore Erica Naumann (Middletown, Conn.) followed Ronayne to the wall in the 500-free, recording a time of 5:17.34.
Another newcomer in Sydney Simpson (Tallahassee, Fla.) logged a team-best time of 2:28.18 to take seventh in the 200-breast, .3 seconds ahead of teammate Megan Mallon (Glen Mills, Pa.) in eighth.
Simpson was also the first Pirate to reach the finish in the 100-fly, again touching just ahead of another team member. Simpson posted a time of 59.17, edging sophomore Tessa Lindner (Sun Prairie, Wisc.) for the top performance on the squad.
Seton Hall's two fastest competitors in the 200-back also finished in quick succession as Kelsey Buonaiuto (Miller Place, N.Y.) registered a 2:12.38 mark that was less than .5 seconds in front of Cora Meehan (Noblesville, Ind.) (2:12.87).
Already a key contributor in short distance freestyle events, freshman Kat Carson (Katy, Texas) delivered a 100-free time of 54.55 to lead the way for The Hall.
Carson also swam the anchor leg on a sixth-place 200-medley relay squad that included Mallon as well as Melody Bush (Guelph, Ontario) and Gabi Levine (Garwood, N.J.) and combined for a time of 1:50.97.
In the 400-free relay, Carson teamed with Ronayne, Lindner and Sam Shirtliff (Camp Hill, Pa.) that placed seventh in 3:38.68.
Despite a balanced showing over the two-day meet, the Seton Hall women sustained their first three losses of the season. The Pirates will still carry a 6-3 record into their final meet of the fall.
The Hall will head to Virginia next for the Patriot Invitational, a three-day event hosted by George Mason. Competition is scheduled to start on Thursday, November 20 and will carry through Saturday, November 22.
