The Richie Regan Athletics Center remains a hub of activity as construction has escalated during the summer months on a variety of projects that will change the face of Seton Hall Athletics.
The completely renovated Varsity Training Room is in the final stages of preparation and remains on track to be operational as early as next week. The augmented, modernized area will serve as the primary on-site care facility for all 14 of Seton Hall’s varsity programs, and features a number of significant additions.
Most notably, three 14-foot in-ground Hydro Worx tubs have been installed in an effort to enhance rehabilitation capabilities. Of these tubs, one is a "Polar Plunge" and one is a "Thermal Plunge," providing the full spectrum of care. The third includes a state-of-the-art underwater treadmill. In addition to operating with variable water depths, the tub features a video system allowing for real-time monitoring of the student-athlete's progress on the treadmill both above and beneath the water line.
New treatment tables and taping stations have also been installed and the repurposed space also includes offices for the Seton Hall sports medicine staff and the Pirates’ physicians.
In the Fieldhouse, the all-new basketball flooring with an authentic hardwood look continues to be lain. When completed, the area will feature five basketball courts and will be encircled by a track surface produced by Mondo, the “world’s leader in running tracks performance.” A staple at the most prestigious track & field events worldwide, Mondo flooring has been present at the last 10 Olympic Games.
In the same vicinity, work has also steadily progressed on the framing of the planned expansion to the fitness center as steel has been installed both inside and outside the facility. The new center will feature a spacious, multi-tiered design and will be lined with state-of-the-art fitness equipment, providing the Seton Hall community first-rate exercise opportunities.
The planned renovations call for a dual-level facility that will offer a variety of circuit weight training options. Also present will be a new reception and office area designed to facilitate member relations and supplement the assortment of offerings on the second floor.
In addition to the second cardio station, the aforementioned top floor will contain an area designed for free weight training. Filling out the top level will be a pair of dance and fitness studio multi-purpose rooms, each slated to be in excess of 1,100 square feet.
Elsewhere in the building, the Charles W. Doehler Academic Center for Excellence, a cornerstone of the Pride & Excellence Campaign, has entered the final stages of the preliminary planning phase. Graphics, furniture and carpeting have been selected and construction is scheduled to commence within the month pending the approval of various permits.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Pirate got an inside look at the construction and even lent a helping hand. To view the photos, please click HERE or use the above link.
