NEW YORK, N.Y. - For the second week in a row, the Seton Hall women's swimming & diving team was recognized for having the top performer in the conference as senior Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) has been named the final BIG EAST Female Swimmer of the Week for the fall.
The announcement comes after freshman Melody Bush (Guelph, Ontario) earned the award last week, and closes a two-month stretch in which Seton Hall firmly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in a re-shaped league.
Last week at the nine-team Patriot Invitational, Kolackovsky helped the Pirates' finish fourth by collecting four top-five individual finishes and swimming on the team's top squad in four relay events.
Most notably, her opening leg split of 51.85 in the 400-free relay broke her own 100-free school record, leading the Pirates to a third-place effort in the event with a time of 3:30.71 that is less than one second off the conference-leading pace this season. She also anchored a third-place finish in the 200-medley relay and aided fifth-place showings in the 400-medley and 800-free relays.
As an individual, she placed no lower than fifth in four events. Her time of 2:05.03 in the championship final of the 200-IM was good enough for second-place overall - The Hall's best finish of the meet - and stands as the fastest time in the BIG EAST heading into the winter break. Kolackovsky also delivered a league-best time in the two breaststroke finals, reaching the wall in 2:19.73 at 200-yards and finishing the 100-yard race in 1:04.29 to take third-place on each occasion.
In the 50-free, she powered her way to a fifth-place time of 23.96, the team's top time of the year and one of four sub-24 second efforts in the conference this season.
Kolackovsky also previously posted three wins apiece in SHU's two most recent dual meets; convincing victories over Iona and conference rival Providence. At the end of the fall, she ranks as the #1 seed in the conference in the 100-breast, 200-breast and 200-IM and among the top-four competitors in the 50, 100, and 200-free as well as the 400-IM.
With six individual school records already to her name, the Franklin Square native is pushing to close an already storied career by becoming the Seton Hall women's swimming & diving program's first BIG EAST champion in two decades and just the third in school history.
The Pirates will resume competition on January 25 at Marist. The following day, Seton Hall will host Connecticut in a dual meet that will serve as Senior Day for Kolackovsky and other members of the Class of 2014.
