FAIRFAX, VA. - On the first day of the final competition of the fall, the Seton Hall men's swimming and diving team continued to assert itself as one of the strongest squads in the BIG EAST, registering the conference's top performance of the season in two of six total events.
Sophomore Tim Bosse (New Windsor, N.Y.) claimed the top seed in the league for the time being by virtue of his effort in the 500-free consolation final after placing 15th overall in the preliminary round. In the night session, Bosse reached the wall in 4:45.48, picking up 14th-place points while surpassing Xavier's Nick Strader (4:46.06) for the #1 spot.
Freshmen and fellow Keystone State products Seth Underwood (Collegeville, Pa.) and Cooper Lindsley (Lancaster, Pa.) also earned a second swim, placing 24th and 22nd overall respectively.
Later in the final race of the evening, Bosse was part of a 400-medley relay squad that also included Keith Carlino (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Zach DeLillo (Sinking Spring, Pa.) James Logan (Wallingford, Pa.) and placed seventh overall with a time of 3:28.07; establishing a new league standard in the process.
The Hall also picked up valuable points in the 200-free relay as Carlino and Logan teamed with freshmen Jack Poupore (Tucson, Ariz.) and Zach Suter (Aurora, Colo.) to secure fourth-place with a 1:25.16 effort. Only one BIG EAST team in Xavier has turned in a faster time to this point in the season.
Poupore was the leader of a strong Seton Hall showing in the 50-free event as a total of five Pirates advanced past the preliminary round. Poupore clocked in at 21.61 in both of his appearances, ranking 11th in the final round while cracking the top-four seeds in the conference. Suter finished 15th overall while Logan and senior Joey Lacus (Wethersfield, Conn.) also cracked the 22-second mark in preliminary action and were joined in the C final by DeLillo.
Logan ultimately placed 19th while DeLillo came in 21st and Lacus finished 23rd.
Suter and Logan were also two of the team's top-three performers in the 200-IM, a rayce in which the Pirates were paced by sophomore Andrew William (Bayonne, N.J.). William turned in a 21st-place time of 1:58.81 that ranks among the top-five in the BIG EAST and after finishing as the top alternate in the preliminary round, Suter replaced Logan in the C final and placed 23rd.
From the one-meter board, SHU had its full compliment of three divers in competition for the first time this season. Junior Ben Mitchell (Milford, Pa.) collected the highest six-dive score of the day with a 271.30 in prelims and finished third in the final with a score of 261.80.
