BETHLEHEM. PA. - The Seton Hall women's cross country team traveled to central Pennsylvania on Friday to compete in the 2013 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and turned in one of its strongest efforts of the season as the Pirates saw the top-three performers on the squad achieve personal records at the 6K distance.
SHU placed 27th overall behind career-best times from the same triumvirate that has led the team in every race this season as senior Nyala Eddings (Chicago, Ill.) was the fastest Pirate for the ninth consecutive meet and was followed to the line by junior Mary Migton (Ledgewood, N.J.) and freshman Desyre Blackburn (Aloha, Ore.).
Just one meet after setting a new PR at the 2013 BIG EAST Championships, Eddings shattered her previous individual 6K standard, finishing with a time of 22:19 that was nearly 40 seconds faster than the previous mark. Migton clocked in only one second later, surpassing her career-best of 22:32.90 by more than 12 seconds.
As a freshman, Blackburn's career marks are based on a limited sample size but on Friday she cracked the 24-minute mark for the first time in three 6K appearances, turning in a time of 23:50.
A scorer for the Pirates in every meet of her freshman season a year ago, sophomore Amanda Quaglia (Reading, Pa.) has made her way back from the injuries that slowed her early in the 2013 campaign and has now ranked among the team's top-five in the last two races. Quaglia recorded a time of 25:15 at the Regional to score for the third time overall this season.
In her first trip to the regional meet, sophomore Bri Miller (Bayonne, N.J.) re-entered the scoring group for the fourth time in what is her first season of competition. Her time of 25:42 was at the front of a group of three Pirates who crossed the line consecutively as classmates Amanda Catherall (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Samantha Young (Upper Black Eddy, Pa.) were the next two runners to reach the finish.
Villanova's Emily Lipari was crowned individual champion and led by the top-two runners in the 207-competitor field, the Wildcats captured the team title as well.
Next up for The Hall is the 2013 season finale as both cross country squads will head to the Bronx and Van Cortlandt Par next Saturday, November 23. The women will compete in the ECAC Championship race and action is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
