DePaul's Elise Wyatt came away with the game-winning score in the 84th minute, breaking what had been a scoreless deadlock up to that point.
Wyatt, who had subbed back into the game just four minutes before scoring the game-winner, fired a high shot from 20-yards out to the far post to beat Seton Hall senior goalkeeper Alyssa Kelly (Southampton, N.J.) in the upper 90. Rachel Pitman and goalkeeper Megan Pyrz were credited with an assists on the play.
DePaul was the aggressor on offense early in the game, taking a 5-1 lead over Seton Hall in shot attempts, but the Pirates turned the momentum as the half wore on, searching for the first goal of the game.
Junior Marie Klemme (Berlin, Germany) had a header attempt saved by Pyrz in the 34th minute in what was the first of three shots on goal over the final 12 minutes of the first half for Seton Hall.
Junior midfielder Ashley Clarke (Paramus, N.J.) recorded the other two shots on net down the stretch for the Pirates, but Pyrz was there to make the save on Clarke's attempt in the 37th minute and again with just over three minutes remaining in the period.
Seton Hall came out firing in the second half, recording three shots through the first 10 minutes of action. Redshirt senior Stephanie Soma (Franklin, Mass.) had a shot blocked in the 51st minute and sophomore Kristina Meier (Paramus, N.J.) and Clarke followed with shots of their own, but neither found the back of the net and DePaul managed to withstand the Pirates' charge.
With just over 15 minutes remaining Seton Hall made one more sustained offensive charge but Pyrz saved a shot attempt by junior Brittney Albrecht (Mahwah, N.J.) and freshman Alexis Urbanski's (Aberdeen, N.J.) soared a shot high in the 76th minute. The Blue Demons scored the game-winner eight minutes later.
Clarke finished the game with a team-high three shots on net for Seton Hall. Kelly made three saves in 90 minutes and DePaul finished with a 13-10 advantage in shot attempts.
Seton Hall (6-10, 1-7) returns to action on Friday, Oct. 12, when it hosts the Cincinnati Bearcats at Owen T. Carroll Field to begin a three-match home stand to wrap up the regular season. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
