Tennis Adds Two Recruits for 2012-2013

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall tennis team will feature two new additions for the 2012-13 season. Head coach Greg Wyzykowski announced that Julia Keenan (Greenland, N.H.) and Alexandra Landert (Naples, Fla.) have signed national letters of intent and will attend the university beginning in the fall 2012.
"Each year we have been able to add new players that have been improving our program," Wyzykowski said. "The addition of Julia and Alex is no different. It shows the growth of our program, and as we continue to add quality players and individuals, our future is looking brighter."
Julia Keenan will join the Pirates following one of the most impressive high school careers in New Hampshire history. A highly decorated player, Keenan's exploits include numerous local and state recognitions for her play and sportsmanship. She is a four-star recruit who has held the distinction of one of the top USTA players in New England for several years. She has achieved a number one ranking in doubles and been ranked as high as fourth in singles during her career. During her time at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, N.H., Keenan has yet to drop a single match on her way two three consecutive individual state titles. During that time, Keenan has also won a state doubles title and led her team to the overall title in 2010. Keenan has also tasted success on the junior circuit, taking wins at several USTA tournaments, including New England Sectional Doubles, New England Clay Court, and Hard Court Doubles.
"Julia is a strong athlete with good all-around court skills," said Wyzykowski. "She has been very successful on both the singles and doubles court and those skills will have an immediate impact to our program."
Alexandra Landert comes to Seton Hall by way of the "Sunshine State." After previously attending Florida Virtual School, she will complete her senior year at Naples High School in Naples, Fla. Also rated as a four-star recruit, Landert ranks among the top-100 recruits in the nation for 2012. Battle tested, Landert has amassed a 15-5 record against other four-recruits according to tennisrecruiting.net. She began her youth career in Switzerland where she previously resided. Against Swiss competition, Landert won several national tournaments and reached the quarterfinals of the Swiss Junior Championships. Prior to departing for the United States, Landert was ranked in the top-10 nationally in her age group and 64th overall. Upon her domestic arrival, Landert began to train at the Academy Sanchez Casal in Naples, Fla. and has competed in USTA and ITF tournaments. In just two years on the USTA scene, Landert has risen to a top-30 ranking in Florida and ranks among the top-200 players in the nation.
"Alex is a strong player with proven results," Wyzykowski said. "I am excited that Alex chose us from the number of offers she received, which included other BIG EAST schools. Alex is a player that with her skill and determination, can help our program continue to improve."
The current Pirates resume action on February 4, 2012. Seton Hall will travel to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army and Binghamton University on consecutive days for their first tests of the spring season.
