
Tennis' Viola and Ranger Advance to Semifinals at Quinnipiac Invitational

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Seton Hall tennis team began singles competition at the Quinnipiac Invitational on Saturday. Junior Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) sophomore Nathalie Ranger (Oakville, Ontario) advanced to the semifinals in their respective brackets.
Viola defeated Quinnipiac's Jackie Herb (6-3, 3-6, 10-7) in the first round of the "A" Singles group, then topped UConn's Kelly LoRusso in straight sets (6-0, 7-6 (7)). She will face UMBC's Pascaline Cette in the semis on Sunday.
Ranger bested Alex Sinclair of Binghamton easily (6-2, 6-0), and went on to beat UConn's Jenny Marotta (7-6 (8), 6-1) in the quarterfinals. She will be up against Army's Maria Casaletto in the final four of the "D" singles group.
In other "A" singles action sophomore Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany) dropped her match to Binghamton's Anna Edelman in straight sets (7-6, 6-4).
Seniors Nadja Shein (Tallinn, Estonia) and Amanda El-Tobgy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) both lost in "B" singles action. Shein also dropped her consolation match later in the day.
In the "C" singles group, sophomores Liza Chu (Panama City, Panama) and Alexandra Harvey (Chatham, N.C.) fell in their main draw and consolation contests.
The Pirates close out play at the Quinnipiac Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 23.
